Dry was First Tasmanian born Premier 1866-1860 and first Tasmanian to be knighted. Robert Dowling was copied the photo painted portrait after his death portrait in collection. Drawing of both Sir Richard & Lady Dry, Rome c1857 by G.E.Marrohm QVMAG, showing same piece of jewellery.

9. Bishop Nixon (1803-1879)
Worked as chaplain in Naples, then Kent before being consecrated First Bishop of Tasmania appointed 1842, arr Tas 1843. In addition to his pastoral duties in the colony, Nixon took an interest in matters such as education and convicts and became very active in intellectual and artistic circles. He recorded his extensive travels around the colony in sketches and watercolours; and with men such as John Skinner Prout, James Bicheno and George Boyes formed the Hobart Town Sketching Club. He was on the organising committees for exhibitions in 1845 and 1846, in which examples of his own works were exhibited. and in 1858 held a show of his own at the Mechanics Institute. He was one of the first in Tasmania to show a keen interest in photography, showing daguerreotypes to Thomas Bock in 1843. His photographs of the Oyster Cove residents are his best known works. Travelled London 1846-48, returned permanently London 1862-66, moved to Italy, died 1879.

12. Giuseppi Garibaldi Signed verso pencil Garibaldi . Printed Negretti and Zambra 12 Feb 1861. Robert dowling was in London 1857-1884 and painted a portrait oof Garibaldi commissioned by the Mayor of Southampton in 1864. The Hinsbys and Dowlings were closely connected and Robert stayed with the Hinsbys when in Hobart.
13. Prince Alfred Duke of Edinburgh, together with Harry Dowling Jr turned the first sod for the Launceston and Western Railways 15 Jan 1868
14. Charles Hunt of Canterbury NZ married Mary Ann Ware 4 October 1859 at Henry Hinsby’s house in Hobart, younger sister of Lucy Ware. The Hunts bought Locharts Run ‘Valetta’ NZ and Greymouth would have been nearest town. C1862 Backstamp Tait Bros Greymouth NZ
