A renowned Tasmanian artist, Samek’s work covers many genres of the humour of music, food, wine and social interaction. Active in painting, sculpture and prints, his artworks depicting puppets are an important contribution, with this adaptation of portraiture and universal profiles, and are significantly rare.
The glove puppets offer an extension of human characters and play while perhaps the humour belies another dialogue.
Exhibited for the first time, this work was acquired directly from the artist’s studio and has been held in a private collection for some 30 years.
